The Second South Asia Judicial Roundtable on Environmental Justice brings together Chief Justices, senior judges, and experts to consider common environmental challenges in the region, share experiences, and discuss opportunities for cooperation between judiciaries to enhance environmental adjudication and enforcement.
In support of the meeting discussions, this paper provides an overview of key environmental challenges across South Asia; briefly outlines environmental laws and institutions in place; discusses how judiciaries have managed environmental cases; and identifies challenges throughout the environmental law implementation process.
Participants will be asked to openly discuss and consider these important challenges, and reflect on proposed collaborative opportunities between judiciaries in South Asia.
