Asia Pacific Judicial Colloquium on Climate Change - Using Constitutions to Advance Environmental Rights and Achieve Climate Justice: Meeting Report and Materials

On 26 and 27 February 2018, the Asia Pacific Judicial Colloquium on Climate Change: Using Constitutions to advance Environmental Rights and Achieve Climate Justice was held in Lahore, Pakistan. The objective of this report is to give an overview of the colloquium and to provide training materials to help judges navigate through complex issues to achieve environmental, climate and social justice. The report includes the Lahore Action Plan, summaries of some speaker presentations, and provides a synopsis of environmental constitutionalism and selected landmark judicial decisions.

Workshop on Mainstreaming Legal Knowledge of Environmental Issues

ADB is supporting the Supreme Court of Cambodia's request for a training for judges on environment and climate change law. This is in line with recent initiatives to enact a comprehensive Environmental Code for the country. The training/workshop aims to equip judges with the knowledge and skills to tackle this new Code and to handle environmental cases, and to learn from best practices from other jurisdictions.

A Look Back at AJNE in 2018

2018 was a busy year for the environment and climate change issues. The year was one of the warmest - well within the top 10 and continuing the trend of breaking historical temperature records (recent reports actually say it is the warmest on record!).

Climate Science and Litigation: It’s Gettin’ Hot in Here

Climate change is coming and it’s coming to a court near you. Climate litigation in Asia and the Pacific will grow and it will increasingly emerge as an issue during environmental and other litigation. Awareness of the science will be important for understanding the nature of cases in your docket and for resolving litigation.

MDBs Announce Joint Framework to Combat Climate Change

Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) today announced a joint framework for aligning their activities with the goals of the Paris Agreement, reinforcing their commitment to combat climate change.
